Crowns and Caps
What is a crown or cap?
A crown (or cap) is a cover that fits over a prepared tooth
that has been damaged by decay or accident, or is badly stained
or misshapen. A crown can be made of plastic, porcelain, metal
or a combination of these.

How is a crown or cap made?
Usually the dentist will freeze the area around the tooth
to be prepared. The dentist will then trim the tooth so that
the cap can fit over it. We would then take an impression
of your mouth and fit a temporary crown while the dental laboratory
prepares the final crown. On your next visit we would remove
the temporary cap and cement the final crown.
